More than 100 residents joined forces with our colleagues and local partners to help transform the Montgomery Estate during a successful community Skip Day on Friday - as part of our ongoing Spruce up Your Streets programme.

The event gave residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted bulky items responsibly, helping to clear clutter, tackle environmental concerns and create a cleaner, more welcoming neighbourhood for everyone. The idea came from a neighbourhood walkabout, where residents and colleagues identified a need for additional support to help manage waste and improve the local environment.

The response was fantastic, with residents turning out throughout the day to get involved and make a visible difference in their community.

Delivered in partnership with Halton Borough Council, who funded 50% of the skip costs, the day produced some impressive results:

✅ Two 20-yard skips and one 8-yard skip filled to capacity

♻️ An additional 8-yard skip's worth of metal collected for recycling

🗑️ Four bags of litter picked from around the estate

🙌 45 volunteering hours contributed by Halton Housing colleagues

But the impact went far beyond the numbers. Residents worked together to improve their surroundings, creating a cleaner and tidier estate while helping to build a stronger sense of community pride. Colleagues were on hand throughout the day to support residents, manage the skips and ensure everything ran smoothly from start to finish.

Residents were quick to share their appreciation, with one commenting on social media:

"Thank you so much for these, it's helped a lot. Hopefully it will reduce fly tipping."

The event forms part of our ongoing 'Our Future Focus:2025-28' commitment to creating cleaner, safer thriving communities and supporting residents to take pride in where they live.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped make the day such a success, including Halton Borough Council, the colleagues who volunteered their time, and the many residents who rolled up their sleeves and got involved. We're still awaiting confirmation of the total tonnage collected, but one thing is already clear: the Montgomery Estate looks cleaner, tidier and more welcoming thanks to a fantastic community effort!

Together, we've taken another positive step towards creating communities that people are proud to call home.
