Last week, two of our colleagues had the pleasure of visiting Halebank C of E Primary School as part of their Aspirations Week, where children had the opportunity to hear from people working in a wide range of roles and learn about the many possibilities that could be open to them in the future.

Throughout the week, pupils met an incredible variety of visitors, including footballers, firefighters, nurses, local coffee shop owners, nuclear engineers, airport workers, gymnastics coaches, photographers, hairdressers, arts and crafts specialists, radio hosts and many more. It was fantastic to see so many different experiences and professions represented, helping to broaden the children’s understanding of the world around them and the opportunities that lie ahead.

During our session, we talked about the important work Halton Housing does to support people and communities, from maintaining homes and neighbourhoods to helping customers access services, activities and opportunities. We also highlighted the variety of roles within our organisation, showing how different skills, interests and talents all play a part in making a positive difference. What stood out most was the engagement from the pupils.

They asked some brilliant questions, showed genuine curiosity and were keen to learn more about the different jobs people do and what a typical day might look like. Their enthusiasm, confidence and willingness to get involved made the session both enjoyable and rewarding.

It's about planting seeds, broadening horizons and helping children understand that there are so many different paths they can take in the future. Who knows – some of the pupils we met may one day choose a career in housing and make a real difference in their communities."

Inspiring the next generation and helping young people to explore their potential is an important part of how we support our communities. Activities such as Aspirations Week align with the ambitions set out in Our Future Focus 2025-28 strategy, helping us create opportunities, build aspirations and make a positive difference for local people.

For older students looking to gain first-hand experience of the workplace, we also offer Workplace Safari, our week-long work experience programme that provides an insight into the many different careers available across Halton Housing and beyond. 

It was a privilege to be part of a week dedicated to raising aspirations and encouraging children to think about what they might enjoy doing in the future. Events like this provide a valuable opportunity to spark curiosity, build confidence and show young people that there are many exciting possibilities available to them.

We were delighted to represent Halton Housing and contribute to such a positive initiative. Who knows where their ambitions will take them – but we have no doubt there are some very bright futures ahead.
