Beware of Bogus Callers Claiming to Be From Halton Housing

We want to advise all Halton Housing customers to be vigilant following reports in recent days of individuals posing as our staff, to gain access to homes.
These individuals have been falsely claiming to be from Halton Housing to conduct surveys. When challenged, they were unable to provide valid identification.
What You Need to Know
Distraction burglars - also known as ‘bogus callers’ - often turn up unannounced, using fake ID cards or uniforms to pose as employees of legitimate organisations. Their goal is to trick their way into your home.
Most visits to your home - and always those related to surveys - are pre-arranged. We will always notify you in advance and agree a suitable date and time for the visit. In some cases, our Rent Support team may visit without prior notice, but they will always carry official Halton Housing identification.
Your safety is our priority. Please follow this important advice to protect yourself and your home:
How to Stay Safe
-
Always ask for identification – especially if the caller does not have a scheduled appointment.
- Do not let anyone into your home or share personal information unless you are certain of their identity.
- Ask them to return later when someone else can be with you.
- Request that they contact you by letter to arrange a more convenient time.
How to Identify a Genuine Halton Housing Employee
All Halton Housing staff carry official ID that includes:
- The Halton Housing logo
- The staff member’s name and photograph
Halton Housing Neighbourhood Manager, Laura Davies said: “As someone who works closely with our neighbourhoods every day, I know how unsettling it can be when someone unexpected shows up at your door asking for access to your home. That’s why I want to personally urge all our customers to stay cautious. If someone claims to be from Halton Housing, always ask for ID and don’t feel pressured to let them in. We’re here to help—if you’re ever unsure, just give us a call. Your safety and peace of mind is our priority.”
