Privacy and independence, with support when needed

If you're over 55, our independent living schemes could be perfect for you. Independent living can bring a more active and independent lifestyle, but with additional support on hand. The schemes are mixed tenure, meaning residents can rent, buy and/or become a shared owner of independent living properties.

We own and operate two independent living schemes in Widnes, Naughton Fields and Barkla Fields. In 2022, and we will open Hazlehurst, our third and first independent living scheme in Runcorn.

What is independent living?

Independent living allows people to live completely self-sufficiently in their own home, with communal hubs to socialise and connect with neighbours. Residents can enjoy the shared spaces such as the gardens, lounges, multi-purpose rooms, and reception areas. We also have onsite bistros and a hairdressers at Naughton Fields. There are often socials activities such as bingo and events arranged by the residents and staff to choose from.

Naughton Fields

Naughton Field, our first independent living scheme in Widnes offers one and two-bed apartments for rent and shared ownership with the option of flexible care and support, alongside a range of onsite facilities and amenities.

Hazlehurst

Hazlehurst is our third independent living scheme. Located in the Sandymoor area of Runcorn, the specialist apartments will feature a range of contemporary facilities including a bistro and multi-function room, available to residents and the wider community.

The scheme is to be named “Hazlehurst” after local businessman Thomas Hazlehurst who founded soap and alkali manufacturing company, Hazlehurst & Sons in 1816.

Care and Support

The independent living team is committed to helping residents of our schemes, so they can continue to enjoy their home comforts. The services we offer at our schemes include:

  • Support at home on a daily basis.
  • On-site scheme staff to help with any queries or issues residents may have.
  • Access to the fantastic range of social activities.

Our Bistros

Our two independent living schemes in Widnes, Naughton Fields and Barkla Fields offer two fantastic Bistros which are open to the public. Both Bistros offer freshly made meals, snacks and a selection of hot and cold drinks.

Affordable rent

To apply to live in any of our independent living schemes you must have an active Property Pool Plus account. If you have trouble accessing the internet, our Neighbourhood Gateway Advisors can help you get sorted. The team will help you set up your account, assess your housing needs, and help you bid on suitable properties which match your requirements.

Shared ownership

Shared Ownership allows you to buy a share in an apartment and pay a reduced rent on the share that you don’t own. Shares range from 25% to 75% initially, with the option for you to buy more once you’ve moved in.
