Families Get Cooking in Runcorn Old Town

As part of the Destination Old Town initiative, Halton Housing recently brought families together through a series of fun and practical cookery sessions designed to inspire home cooking and healthier eating habits.
Delivered by Fresh Beginnings and funded by Halton Housing, the sessions guided families through baking a variety of tasty treats including cookies, sausage rolls, and both sweet and savoury pizzas. The hands-on experience offered not only a chance to build kitchen confidence but also an opportunity for families to enjoy quality time together while learning new skills.
Attendees said the sessions were so much fun, with many commenting on how enjoyable and useful the experience was for both adults and children alike.
To help participants continue their culinary journey at home, each family was gifted a slow cooker, a recipe book, and a Pot Gang grow box – a fantastic starter kit to grow their own herbs and vegetables. This sustainable gift encourages families to cook from scratch using fresh, home-grown ingredients.
These sessions are a great example of how Destination Old Town is supporting communities.
Thriving Communities is one of the 5 key themes in our 3-year corporate plan ‘Our Future Focus: 2025 - 28’ and supporting initiatives like this help us achieve our purpose of Improving People’s Lives.
