Work has started to retrofit three of Halton Housing’s low-rise blocks of flats on the Grange Estate in Runcorn, to enhance and improve their quality and energy efficiency.

All three blocks will benefit from retrofit measures including new wall insulation, refurbished roof with solar PV panels, and a centralised ventilation system.

In addition, new windows and external doors will be installed along with enclosed balconies and increased security systems.

Energy and Construction specialists in green energy solutions, Ecogee will undertake the work on behalf of Halton Housing.

Halton Housing’s own investment in the improvement works is supported by funding secured as part of the wider Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s bid for over £11 million from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). This grant helps social housing providers to tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and increase the energy efficiency of homes.

As a result of the improvement works, carbon emissions will be reduced, and it is expected that those living in upgraded homes will save on their energy bills.

The investment forms part of Halton Housing’s Destination Grange programme, working with residents and partners on a community-led approach to neighbourhood renewal, with proposals to improved green space, facilities, and opportunities for residents.

Georgina Patel, Decarbonisation Strategic Lead at Halton Housing said: “Securing the grant funding allows us to maximise the energy efficiency measures on these blocks which will bring benefits to our customers in terms of saving energy and will help Halton Housing to reduce our carbon footprint”

Brendan Helm from Ecogee added "Ecogee is delighted to have been chosen to work on the retrofit project and to deliver much-needed energy saving measures to the households of the Grange Estate. This will ultimately improve the energy efficiency of their homes and hopefully reduce their overall energy bills.

From our headquarters in Liverpool, we have been delivering energy saving measures since our launch back in 2013 and we are confident that with the support of our partner Halton Housing, the Grange Estate project will be a great success."
