We are proud to announce that we have been awarded Partner Standard accreditation by the England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT), recognising our commitment to protecting customers and communities from the harm caused by loan sharks and illegal money lenders.

This accreditation marks a significant milestone in our ongoing work to support financial wellbeing, strengthen safeguarding practices, and ensure customers have access to safe, trusted advice when they need it most.

As part of the accreditation process, teams across Halton Housing completed specialist training to help them identify the signs of illegal lending, understand the tactics used by loan sharks, and confidently support customers who may be at risk. We will also embed awareness‑raising materials across our services and strengthen referral pathways to ensure customers can access expert help quickly and safely.

Claire Creed, Welfare Benefit Money Advice Manager, said: “We are delighted to receive IMLT Partner Standard accreditation. Loan sharks can have a devastating impact on individuals, families, and whole communities. This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to tackling the issue head on and ensuring our customers feel safe, supported, and empowered. Our teams are now even better equipped to spot the signs, start conversations, and connect people with the right support.”

By working closely with the IMLT, we will continue raising awareness, promoting safe alternatives to borrowing, and helping to stop loan sharks.
