Our community initiative has brought colour, comfort, and cleaner spaces to residents of Viking Court, who are now enjoying a brighter, greener environment following a successful community clean-up as part of our ongoing Spruce Up Your Streets programme.

The event, held under clear skies and with plenty of community spirit, saw Halton Housing staff, volunteers, and local residents come together to give the area a fresh new look — just in time for summer.

Among the improvements made was the installation of a brand-new bench near the disabled parking spaces, offering a welcome resting spot for residents and visitors. Two raised planters were also added and filled with crocosmia bulbs, which are expected to bloom in the coming weeks, adding a vibrant splash of colour to the space.

Volunteers also cleared overgrown shrubbery around the pergola, making way for new climbing plants to be introduced. Six full bags of litter were collected from communal areas and surrounding streets, and the bin shed was cleared of greenery to improve accessibility and hygiene. General shrubbery was trimmed back, giving the area a neat, refreshed appearance.

“This is what Spruce Up Your Streets is all about — working together to create spaces that people feel proud to live in,” said Georgina Crank from Halton Housing’s Social Impact and Engagement team. “It’s not just about tidying up; it’s about building stronger, more connected communities.”

The Spruce Up Your Streets initiative has been running for several years, with Halton Housing’s Social Impact and Engagement and Neighbourhoods teams identifying areas in need of attention and working alongside residents and local partners to make meaningful improvements.
