Mersey Weaver Scouts – New Scouting Provision in Runcorn and Widnes
About Mersey Weaver Scouts
Mersey Weaver Scouts is part of the UK Scouting movement, supporting young people aged 4–25 across Runcorn and Widnes to develop skills for life. Through outdoor adventures, community engagement, and inclusive programming, the district empowers young people to grow physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
With 15 Halton-based groups and sections ranging from Squirrels to Explorers, Mersey Weaver Scouts is committed to ensuring that finance and personal circumstances are never barriers to participation. Their inclusive approach has enabled young people from diverse backgrounds—including young carers and those with additional needs—to take part in life-changing experiences, such as a recent international expedition to Switzerland.
The Project: New Scouting Provision in Runcorn and Widnes
With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, Mersey Weaver Scouts will launch new Scouting sections in areas of high need, including Murdishaw, Grangeway, and Windmill Hill in Runcorn, and Hough Green in Widnes.
The funding will be used to purchase essential equipment such as tents, first aid kits, sports gear, and craft materials—helping new groups get off the ground and embrace the outdoors. Shared resources will ensure sustainability and allow all groups to benefit from the investment.
Community Impact
The project will benefit up to 120 young people aged 4–18, as well as adult volunteers who support the groups. By expanding provision into underserved areas, Mersey Weaver Scouts will offer more children and families the opportunity to engage in positive, skill-building activities that promote wellbeing, confidence, and community connection.
As young people move through the sections, the impact will continue to grow—creating a lasting legacy of opportunity and inclusion.
Working Together with Halton Housing
Mersey Weaver Scouts is committed to building long-term partnerships with Halton Housing. In addition to launching new groups, they offer community payback through volunteering—supporting local events, litter picks, gardening, and more. Their mobile climbing wall and Scout skills are regularly shared at community events, helping to strengthen ties and give back to the borough.
