Astmoor Primary School – Enriching Lives Through Music
About Astmoor Primary School
Astmoor Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive school located in Castlefields, Runcorn. Serving children aged 4 to 11, the school is deeply rooted in its community, where many families face significant socio-economic challenges. Astmoor is committed to providing every child with equal opportunities to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
The Project: Enriching Lives Through Music
Through Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, Astmoor Primary School received £1,000 in funding to launch a dedicated music enrichment programme. The project, Enriching Lives Through Music, aims to give every pupil access to high-quality, hands-on music education—something that had previously been out of reach due to budget constraints.
The funding is being used to purchase class sets of instruments, including ukuleles, drums, and recorders, and to contribute towards the cost of a specialist music teacher. This teacher will deliver engaging weekly sessions and help embed a sustainable, skills-based music curriculum across all year groups.
Community Impact
The project will benefit at least 132 children aged 4–11, many of whom would not otherwise have access to music tuition due to financial barriers. By introducing structured music education, the school aims to improve emotional wellbeing, classroom behaviour, and long-term academic outcomes.
Music is also being used as a tool for social inclusion—giving every child a chance to express themselves, build confidence, and feel proud of their achievements.
Working Together with Halton Housing
Many of the children at Astmoor Primary live in Halton Housing homes. This funding represents a meaningful way to support those families beyond housing—by investing in their children’s development and wellbeing. The school is excited about the potential for future collaboration and is keen to celebrate the positive impact of Halton Housing’s support.
