Halton Men’s Shed – Crafting Connection and Wellbeing
About Halton Men’s Shed
Halton Men’s Shed is a newly formed Community Interest Company and a registered member of the UK Men’s Shed Association. Run entirely by volunteers, the group provides a safe, welcoming space for men—primarily over 50—to meet, chat, and connect over tea, biscuits, and shared interests. The initiative is based at Ditton Community Centre and aims to improve mental and physical wellbeing, particularly for those experiencing loneliness, bereavement, or the challenges of retirement.
The Project: Halton Men’s Shed Workshop
With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, Halton Men’s Shed is completing the fit-out of a dedicated craft workshop. This space will allow members to engage in hands-on activities, produce crafts for the local community, and collaborate with groups like Wonky Gardens.
The workshop will serve as a hub for creativity, skill-building, and social interaction—offering a sense of purpose and belonging to men who may otherwise feel isolated.
Community Impact
The project is open to all men in Halton, with a particular focus on those aged 50 and above. By providing a space for connection and creativity, the initiative helps reduce depression, anxiety, and substance dependency—issues that disproportionately affect this demographic. The workshop also encourages community contribution through craft-making and partnerships with other local organisations.
Working Together with Halton Housing
Halton Men’s Shed is already receiving referrals from NHS and community organisations and is keen to work more closely with Halton Housing. The group welcomes referrals of residents who may benefit from improved wellbeing and social connection, and looks forward to building a long-term partnership that supports men across Halton Housing communities.
