About Hazlehurst Studios

Hazlehurst Studios is a not-for-profit creative hub in Runcorn Old Town, home to 22 professional resident artists working across disciplines such as illustration, ceramics, textiles, and photography. The studio is committed to making art and culture accessible to all in Halton, delivering inclusive community projects, workshops, and partnerships with local organisations.

The Project: Hazlehurst Youth Zine Project

With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, Hazlehurst Studios launched the Hazlehurst Youth Zine Project—a creative initiative designed to engage young people aged 11–16 in exploring their local area through art and storytelling.

Over three sessions, participants will work with artists to create a collaborative zine centred on the theme Sense of Place. The project encourages young people to reflect on their community, heritage, and personal experiences, using visual art and writing to express their connection to Runcorn. The final session will celebrate their work and showcase the printed zine.

Community Impact

The project will benefit up to eight young people from across Halton, including those living in Halton Housing homes. By providing a safe, inclusive space for creative expression, the initiative supports wellbeing, builds confidence, and fosters a sense of ownership and pride in their local area.

The zine will serve as a lasting piece of community art, amplifying youth voices and encouraging cultural participation.

Working Together with Halton Housing

Hazlehurst Studios plans to work closely with Halton Housing to identify and engage participants through resident networks. This collaboration strengthens ties between the organisations and supports the growth of cultural initiatives in Runcorn Old Town. It also lays the foundation for future youth-focused creative programmes.
