Runcorn Hockey Club – Supporting Junior Tournaments and Equipment
About Runcorn Hockey Club
Runcorn Hockey Club is the only hockey club in Halton, offering inclusive training and match opportunities for both adults and children. The club provides a welcoming space for young people who may not connect with mainstream sports, and actively supports leadership development through coaching, umpiring, and volunteering — including opportunities linked to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
With junior teams competing across Merseyside and adult teams welcoming players from age 13 upwards, the club promotes fun, fitness, teamwork, and mental wellbeing for all.
The Project: Junior Hockey Tournaments and Equipment
With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, Runcorn Hockey Club will host a Merseyside junior tournament and invest in essential equipment for its growing junior section. The funding will cover pitch hire costs (£300), helping to keep participation free or low-cost for families. The remaining £700 will be used to purchase training balls, bags, team boards, and storage shelving to keep equipment organised and in good condition.
Community Impact
The project will benefit 10–15 children (ages 5–16) and 5–10 adults from across Halton, including Halton Housing communities. By making hockey more accessible and affordable, the club helps young people build confidence, stay active, and develop valuable life skills through sport.
The tournament will also inspire new players to get involved, creating a pathway for long-term participation and community engagement.
Working Together with Halton Housing
Runcorn Hockey Club is keen to collaborate with Halton Housing to promote sessions, taster days, and volunteer opportunities. By working together, they aim to reach more residents and encourage wider participation in sport — especially among children and young people.
