About SPACE Runcorn CIC

SPACE Runcorn CIC is a grassroots, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving mental health, wellbeing, and social connection across Halton. Their mission is to create a safe, inclusive space where people of all ages can access free or low-cost support through conversation, creativity, and community-led events.

Core activities include:

  • A free listening service in their community café
  • Weekly peer-led drop-ins like Despresso Club
  • Creative and wellbeing workshops (art, yoga, music, sound healing)
  • Volunteer training for people with lived experience
  • Events that tackle loneliness and promote inclusion

At its heart, SPACE is about creating space — for people to be heard, to heal, and to belong.

The Project: Despresso Club Winter Sessions

With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, SPACE Runcorn will fund 10 weeks of Despresso Club sessions, held twice weekly. These drop-ins offer free hot drinks, a warm environment, and inclusive activities like board games and conversation starters — all designed to reduce isolation and foster community.

The funding will cover kitchen supplies and overheads for 20 sessions, plus materials to support interaction and engagement. Keeping these sessions completely free removes a major barrier for those who need support but may not feel ready for formal services.

Community Impact

Despresso Club supports an average of 50 people per week, ranging in age from 17 to 86, and brings together individuals from across Halton — including Halton Housing customers. It’s a space where people feel seen, heard, and supported, and where friendships and community bonds are formed.

The sessions have become a cornerstone of SPACE’s offering, especially during the colder months when isolation and mental health challenges can intensify.

Working Together with Halton Housing

SPACE Runcorn already works closely with Halton Housing’s Social Impact Officers and looks forward to continuing this partnership. Together, they aim to cross-promote services, share information, and ensure residents know where to turn for support and connection.
