About Brick by Brick

Brick by Brick is a small, inclusive community group run by St Andrew’s Church in Runcorn, designed to support families with neurodivergent children. The group offers a warm, welcoming space where families can connect through crafts, shared meals, peer support, and Makaton sign language learning. While there is a gentle faith element through Bible stories and prayer, the group is open to everyone, regardless of background or belief.

Brick by Brick is about building understanding, communication, and community — one connection at a time.

The Project: Sensory Equipment and Makaton Training

With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, Brick by Brick will purchase sensory equipment to create a calming space for children who may experience sensory overwhelm. The funding will also support Makaton training for group leaders, helping improve communication and inclusion for children with additional needs.

These additions will make the group more accessible and supportive for families, especially those navigating autism and other neurodivergent experiences.

Community Impact

Brick by Brick is open to all families in Runcorn, with priority given to those living on the Grange estate, where Halton Housing owns social housing. The group provides a rare opportunity for children with special educational needs (SEN) to engage in social play, while parents benefit from peer support and shared understanding.

The addition of a sensory den will help children regulate and remain part of the group, reducing isolation and encouraging participation.

Working Together with Halton Housing

St Andrew’s Church hopes to continue working with Halton Housing to support local families. By funding sensory tools and training, Halton Housing will help create a safe, inclusive environment where children with SEN can thrive and families can find connection and support.
