About St Michael’s DH Football Club

Founded in 1966, St Michael’s DH Football Club has long been a cornerstone of grassroots football in Widnes. In 2025, the club launched its first-ever girls-only U10 team, the St Michael’s All Stars, alongside a new women’s first team — marking a major step forward in promoting inclusivity and opportunity in sport.

The All Stars team provides a fun, friendly, and supportive environment where girls aged 9–10 can learn, grow, and build confidence through football, regardless of background or experience.

The Project: St Michael’s All Stars U10 Girls Football Team

With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, the club will use funding to cover essential start-up and operational costs for the new girls’ team. This includes pitch hire, league fees, insurance, kits, equipment, coaching courses, and training costs — all of which are vital to ensuring the team’s sustainability and accessibility.

The funding will also help the club expand its outreach to local schools, encouraging more girls to get involved and paving the way for additional teams at other age levels.

Community Impact

The All Stars team is actively recruiting players from across Halton, with a focus on school-aged girls in the Ditton ward and surrounding areas. By offering a safe, inclusive space to play football, the club promotes health, wellbeing, teamwork, and self-esteem — while also helping to close the gender gap in youth sport.

With growing interest in women’s football nationally, this initiative ensures that local girls have the opportunity to be part of that movement from the grassroots up.

Working Together with Halton Housing

St Michael’s DH FC is keen to collaborate with Halton Housing to promote health and wellbeing among young residents. Through joint outreach, social media engagement, and school partnerships, the club hopes to offer more opportunities for Halton Housing customers to access girls’ football in a welcoming and empowering environment.
