Victoria Park Environment Team – Christmas Lantern Parade
About VPET
The Victoria Park Environment Team (VPET) is a volunteer-led group that has been running for over 20 years, managing the Glasshouse at Victoria Park, Widnes. The space includes a Butterfly House, wildlife garden, and community area, and is dedicated to promoting environmental care, wellbeing, and community connection.
VPET hosts a wide range of free events throughout the year, including yoga, meditation, painting, repair cafés, and craft sessions, all designed to support mental health and bring people together in nature.
The Project: Christmas Lantern Parade
With support from Halton Housing’s 20 for 20 campaign, VPET will host a free Christmas event on 21st December for local residents. The event will include a lantern-making workshop at the Glasshouse, followed by a lantern parade through the park, ending at the bandstand with carol singing and refreshments.
A highlight of the evening will be the appearance of Ghost Caribou, illuminated reindeer performers from Fools Paradise, adding a magical and memorable touch to the celebration.
Community Impact
The event will be open to residents from Fairfield, Kingsway, and Appleton, including Halton Housing customers. The lantern workshop will accommodate around 50 participants, with the parade and carol singing expected to attract up to 200 attendees.
Aimed primarily at families with young children, the event is designed to foster community spirit, inclusion, and seasonal joy — all in a safe, welcoming outdoor setting.
Working Together with Halton Housing
VPET is keen to collaborate with Halton Housing to promote the event via social media and the website, and would be happy to host a dedicated lantern-making session for Halton Housing tenants. This partnership will help ensure the event reaches as many local families as possible.
