This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to officially launch our Period Positive initiative as part of the new Hygiene Pantry in partnership with Councillor Laura Bevan, Fortuna Female Society and Halton & St Helens Voluntary and Community Action (VCA).

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, reminds us of the power of simple acts of support. By giving something small, a product, a moment of kindness, a message of encouragement, we help create dignity, confidence and opportunity for those who may be struggling. In return, we gain a more connected, compassionate and resilient community.

Our Period Positive initiative is built on exactly that principle. Laura previously worked with the National Hygiene Bank and is now helping establish a local scheme to support women and girls in our community.

Together, our aim is simple; to provide discreet Period Positive packs for anyone in need.

Packs will include essential hygiene products, a small treat and a positive, uplifting note and will be available at local organisations in the Kingsway/Stewards area including Halton Leisure Centre, Ditton Community Centre and the DCBL stadium, with plans to expand further.

To access a pack, just ask at reception for “Tammy” and you’ll be given one discreetly, no questions asked.

Period poverty affects thousands of people across the UK, including many who are working, studying or caring for families. When someone can’t afford basic sanitary products, the consequences go far beyond inconvenience. It can mean missing school or work, avoiding social activities, or having to choose between essentials like food, heating and hygiene. The stigma surrounding periods can make it even harder for people to ask for help, leaving many to struggle in silence.

This initiative is part of our commitment to Our Future Future Focus 25–28 and directly supports the Thriving Communities priority. By promoting dignity, tackling stigma, and ensuring access to essentials we’re working together to build stronger, healthier and more inclusive communities.

Georgina Crank, our Community Impact and Customer Engagement Officer said:

“This partnership is a fantastic example of how we can come together to support local people who may be struggling. By providing these packs in a discreet and compassionate way, we’re helping to remove stigma and barriers that no one should have to face, making sure everyone feels valued and supported.”
