Learning at Work Week is a yearly celebration of all things learning and development and aims to build learning cultures in workplaces, shining a spotlight on the importance and benefits of continual learning and development.

This year, the annual celebration took place from 15th to 21st May. In support of the event, our People team organised a range of events throughout the week for colleagues to get involved in and learn something new.

They also used the week to remind colleagues of the many learning opportunities we offer at Halton Housing from our Leadership Matters programme, to our monthly Managers’ Forum, and our Thrive personal development programme.

Many of our colleagues got involved in everything from trades masterclasses organised by our Maintenance Technicians (MT’s) to professional speed dating and budgeting for the future, whilst members of our Exec team and Leadership team also attended the virtual HQN event - ‘Back to the future’ - blending old and new approaches in housing.

As the week draws to a close, a final ‘learners' lunch’ event will be held at our Head Office, Waterfront Point, hosted by Neil McGrath, Deputy Group Chief Executive & Chief Financial Officer. The learners’ lunch will bring together all colleagues across the organisation who have undertaken a qualification over the past 12 months. The afternoon is a thank you and celebration of all their hard work and dedication to learning which they have committed to alongside their day job.

Although the national week is almost over, we've been reminding our colleagues that learning doesn’t need to stop there. There are opportunities to learn in more places than we might realise – it could be job shadowing, mentoring, watching a 10-minute e-learning video, watching a Youtube tutorial, reading a book, listening to a podcast, networking or just chatting to other people about their skills, hobbies and interests.

If you've been inspired by someone or something recently, why not take the opportunity to learn more?. Or think about the skills you have - someone, somewhere, could benefit from those skills.

Here are some highlights of the week.
