School uniform help - back for the second year

We are delighted to announce that our school uniform support scheme is back for a second year following the huge success of last years’ initiative which saw over 100 school children from low-income families across Halton benefit from the scheme.
Supported by our partners, Travis Perkins, we have £6000 of funding available to provide Halton Housing customers with support towards the cost of school uniforms which can average up to £300 per child (according to some parent surveys).
Citizens Advice Halton will also be supporting the initiative providing admin support to process the scheme.
With the rising cost of living and concerns around the affordability of essential items like school uniform, the aim is that the project will help to alleviate the stress and worry many struggling parents will have been feeling with children going back to school in September.
Welfare Benefit & Money Advice Manager, Amber Cairns said: “When Halton Citizens Advice released their school uniform survey findings, including the cost of school uniform averaging over £300, we wanted to see if we could help families facing this cost. Rising food and fuel costs means many families have less and less disposable income and we wanted to really improve lives - we know a nice uniform can instil pride and make a child feel they belong at school so when we had the opportunity to fund and use community investments from Travis Perkins to build upon the successful scheme from last year we jumped at the chance! We are really proud to work with local partners to invest in our communities and see the next generation shine."
