Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

After working as a Recruitment Administrator for 3 years, this gave me some insight into the world of HR which really appealed to me. I quickly realised HR can be quite a competitive job industry to get into without the relevant qualifications or experience. When I considered the option of an apprenticeship, this seemed like the perfect solution. Gaining both valuable job experience and a CIPD qualification I believe will be the best route to begin my career in HR.

What you do in a typical day/week?

My role consists of both practical learning in the office four days a week and theoretical/academic learning in college once a week. My role involves HR general duties including managing employee files, answering HR related queries from line managers, organising company recruitment schedules and enforcing any workplace regulations.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

One of the things I am enjoying most about my apprenticeship is absorbing all the knowledge from my well-organised team who provide me with the best support and guidance possible and seeing my skills and confidence within the role grow week by week.

What skills have you developed so far during your apprenticeship?

Since beginning my apprenticeship, I have broadened my communication skills, particularly when liaising with more senior members of staff in addressing their HR-related queries or concerns.

Why did you choose Halton Housing?

After researching Halton Housing, I instantly resonated with their behaviors and ethos. In wanting to pursue a career in the People profession, happiness in the workplace is something that is very important to me. From the moment I stepped through the door at my first interview, the warmth and vibrant nature of the company's culture really shone through, making my job offer a very easy 'yes!' for me.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an apprenticeship?

Absolutely go for it! Halton Housing is extremely supportive in providing any necessary guidance that you may need. For my personal situation, my apprenticeship has been the fast track to facilitating a very exciting career change and I feel extremely lucky to be a part of the HR team here at Halton Housing.
