Apprentice in Waterfront Point
Text

Rhys is one of our Carpentry and Joinery Apprentices. Rhys has been with us two years this summer - see how he's getting on!

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I thought an apprenticeship would be the best way to learn more about joinery and learn the trade on the job.

What you do in a typical day/week?

I do a variety of different tasks such as hanging doors, fitting kitchens, skirting boards and lots of other joinery tasks. I then spend one day of my week in college.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

I enjoy being able to learn more skills and also improve the skills I have already learned through my apprenticeship.

What skills have you developed so far during your apprenticeship?

I have developed lots of skills, like good communication, making me able to deal with customers when working in peoples homes. I have also gained lots of knowledge on joinery such as how to use a variety of tools and how to do things such as fit kitchens and hang doors and also how to repair things like windows .

Why did you choose Halton Housing?

I thought Halton Housing would be a good employer with lots of benefits and good opportunites.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an apprenticeship?

I would recommend them to apply for a apprenticeship as it’s a great way to learn and develop new skills whilst also gaining job experience and being employed.
