Everyone deserves to feel safe and healthy at home. Sadly, in 2020, a little boy called Awaab Ishak died after prolonged exposure to mould in his family’s social housing in Rochdale. His death should never have happened. In response, the government has introduced ‘Awaab’s Law’. This new law makes sure all social landlords, including us, take faster and stronger action when customers report issues like damp and mould, that could harm their health. Our promise to you is simple: we will not leave dangerous conditions unresolved.
What is ‘Awaab’s Law’?
Awaab’s Law introduces new, strict rules for social landlords. If you report a hazard that could affect your health, such as damp, mould, leaks, broken heating, or poor ventilation, we must act within set timeframes. We must inspect your home quickly and keep you updated at every stage. If repairs are needed, we must carry them out within the legal deadlines. This law is designed to protect you, our customer, and make sure you never live in unsafe or unhealthy conditions.
What You Can Expect From Us
Here’s how we’re putting Awaab’s Law into action for you:
