Meet Chris, our Asset Data Apprentice

Apprentice Chris
Text

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship because I believe it’s the best way to get into the world of data. This opportunity allows me to learn on the job while building my knowledge and skills.

What do you do in a typical day/week?
On Mondays, I’m either in college or doing college work. For the rest of the week, I’m working from home or in the office - either focusing on my projects or learning alongside my manager.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
Halton Housing is such a friendly and welcoming place to work. I always feel comfortable reaching out to anyone for help or support, and it’s great knowing I have a team of people around me who want to see me grow and succeed.

What skills have you developed so far during your apprenticeship?
I’ve learned a lot, especially how to validate data to make sure it’s accurate. I’ve also picked up ways to visualise data, which really helps when you’re trying to make sense of large spreadsheets. Turning it into a graph gives you a much clearer picture.

Why did you choose Halton Housing?
I was looking for a data apprenticeship and came across this one online. After researching the organisation and reading through their business plan, I found that I really connected with their goals and values. The idea of being part of a team working towards something meaningful really appealed to me - and if I can help contribute in any way, that’s something I’d be proud of.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an apprenticeship?
Go for it - what’s the worst that can happen?
