What is 20 for 20?

We’re awarding £1,000 each to 20 inspiring community projects or initiatives that are making a real difference in Halton. Whether it’s a grassroots group, a local charity, or a neighbourhood initiative, we want to hear from those who are helping build stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.

This initiative reflects our purpose — Improving People’s Lives — and supports the priorities in our corporate plan, Our Future Focus 25–28.

Who Can Apply?

We’re looking for applications from groups and organisations whose work aligns with one or more of the following themes:

Community Improvements

Projects that enhance the physical or social environment of a local area. This could include:

  • Initiatives to improve community safety, such as neighbourhood watch schemes or lighting upgrades.
  • Revitalising shared spaces like parks, community gardens, or village halls.
  • Beautification efforts, including murals, clean-up campaigns, or greening projects.

Health and Wellbeing

Activities that promote physical, mental, or emotional health, such as:

  • Fitness or mindfulness classes.
  • Mental health support groups or counselling services.
  • Nutrition workshops or healthy cooking sessions.
  • Initiatives to reduce health inequalities.

Access to Employment, Skills and Training

Support for individuals seeking work or wanting to improve their skills, including:

  • Job readiness programmes (CV writing, interview prep).
  • Vocational training or apprenticeships.
  • Digital literacy or language classes.
  • Mentoring or coaching for career development.

Opportunities for Children and Young People

Projects that empower and engage younger generations, such as:

  • After-school clubs or holiday programmes.
  • Youth mentoring or leadership schemes.
  • Creative arts, sports, or STEM activities.
  • Support for young carers or vulnerable children.

Promoting Social Inclusion

Initiatives that help people feel connected and valued in their communities, including:

  • Support groups for isolated individuals (e.g. older adults, new parents).
  • Cultural or intergenerational events.
  • Programmes that foster understanding and inclusion across different backgrounds.
  • Volunteering schemes that bring people together.

Promoting Digital and Online Skills

Efforts to bridge the digital divide and help people thrive online, such as:

  • Basic computer skills workshops.
  • Support with accessing online services (e.g. banking, healthcare).
  • Cyber safety education.
  • Providing devices or internet access to those in need.

Hardship Support

Projects that offer direct support to those facing financial or social challenges, including:

  • Food banks or meal provision services.
  • Help with energy bills or fuel poverty.
  • Clothing banks or school uniform support.
  • Advice services for benefits, housing, or debt.

Other Impactful Community-Focused Ideas

We’re open to innovative or unique proposals that don’t fit neatly into the categories above but still make a meaningful difference. If your idea strengthens community resilience, wellbeing, or opportunity, we’d love to hear about it.
